Dengue Fever

Dengue fever is an infectious disease carried and spread by mosquitoes. It is caused by any one of four related dengue virus strains. This disease sometimes causes severe joint and muscle pain that feels like bones are breaking and was once called break bone disease.

Dengue fever is found mostly during and shortly after the rainy season in tropical and subtropical areas of:

  • Southeast Asia and China
  • India
  • Middle East Africa
  • Africa
  • Caribbean and Central and South America
  • Australia and the South and Central Pacific

The health authorities of South East Asian countries are reporting serious outbreaks of Dengue Fever in epidemic proportions.

The World Health Organisation estimate there to be over 100 million people worldwide affected by Dengue fever and growing as climate change will expand the territory that mosquitoes will breed in.

There is no known vaccine or medication that will kill dengue. In Vitro and In Vivo tests have been conducted whereby MAC challenged Dengue fever and killed it.
