Dr Stephen J Ralph

GENVAX Inventor

Dr Stephen J Ralph trained as a virologist/immunologist in New Zealand, and then studied molecular biology at the prestigious Salk Institute, Ca., USA. In 1987 he returned to work as a Queen Elizabeth II Australia National Science Council research fellow at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research.

In 1991 Dr. Ralph was appointed to the interferon laboratory, Dept of Biochemistry, Monash University as a lecturer and research fellow. In the same year he also completed his MBA at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 1992 he became group leader assuming control of projects concerning resistance of cancer cells to interferons and established a laboratory at Monash specialising in the study of interferon mediated signal transduction.

In 2002 Dr Ralph relocated to Griffith University on the Gold Coast where he holds the position of Senior Lecturer in the School of Health Sciences. It is here where the NeuMedix GenVax project is based.

Dr Ralph has been invited to speak at the International Society for Interferon and Cytokine Research (ISICR) annual meeting many times. In 2002 he was elected President of the Australian Chapter of ISICR and in 2004 was elected on its international council committee.

Over thirty five publications have seen Dr Ralph’s direct input, the latest being the lead article in the American Journal of Clinical Dermatology on cancer vaccines. He has written several reviews of his work and has been a referee for the American Association of Immunology publication since 2000.

The Australian Government has recognised Dr Ralph’s significant research contribution by consecutive grant funding from 1994-2003 on resistance of cancer cells to interferons. This was through the National Government Health and Medical Research Grant (NH & MRC) scheme, a body to which he has now been appointed as referee, to review other applications. More recently the Queensland Government through the Queensland Cancer Fund validated Dr Ralph’s substance by the allocation of a two year grant.

Dr Ralph is a world leader in the field of cancer vaccine research. He possesses the experience, knowledge and the commitment to take the NeuMedix GenVax project from the research laboratory to the hospitals and cancer clinics.
