The project has got off to an excellent start. Close liaisons have been made with a number of senior consultant staff at several hospitals, including St Mark’s Hospital, located within Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow, North London. St Mark’s Hospital for Diseases of the Rectum and Colon is one of the most famous hospitals worldwide for treating patients with colon cancer and has an international reputation for clinical research in this area. A new state of the art laboratory has been established within it, and the close links established with its senior personnel will offer tremendous benefits to the success of the project. Not least will there be significant added kudos to the research findings, especially as the research papers will have some of the St Mark’s personnel as co-authors. This will add credibility to the results and enhance their subsequent commercial value of the project.
Dr Jenkins has given a lecture (‘Grand Round’) to all of the consultant surgeons at St Mark’s and received the endorsement from the Director of the Hospital who is very keen to collaborate on the project and assist in the provision of surgical specimens. He has also given a talk to all of the medical physicians including the head of the Endoscopy Unit who has also promised his support. This will greatly facilitate the obtaining of the necessary colonic tissue samples. |
