To date, the biggest obstacle has been to obtain ethical permission from the Northwick Park Hospital Research Ethics Committee which is under the jurisdiction of a UK National Committee. Since an incident involving clinical trial patients a couple of years ago at Northwick Park, which resulted in several deaths amongst healthy volunteers, this Committee has been very strict in its granting of the necessary permission. However, after several meetings and completion of numerous forms, Dr Jenkins has been granted full ethical permission to carry out the study on the St Mark’s/ Northwick Park Hospital site. This is in addition to the ethical permission that had previously been granted for St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Hospital. |
